How to Make Scrabble® Coasters for Your Apartment in Gainesville, FL

If you’re looking for an easy project to pass the time on a rainy day, we’ve got a fun idea for you – making Scrabble® coasters for your apartment!

Here are the supplies you’ll need to make Scrabble coasters:

  • Square-edged Scrabble tiles, 1-2 packages
  • E6000® permanent craft adhesive
  • Precut cork coasters
  • X-ACTO® knife
  • Polyurethane clear gloss varnish paint
  • Newspaper or paper bag

To make your Scrabble coasters, follow these steps:

  • First, decide if you want your coasters to just have random letters or if each line of tiles will spell out a certain word. If you decide on the latter, figure out what four-letter words you want to spell.
  • Second, use the E6000 adhesive to glue each letter to the precut cork coasters. (You should have four tiles per row.) For the first row, align the top of the tiles to the top of the cork square. Then, in the second row, align the top of the tiles to the bottom of the tiles in the first row. Continue for the next two rows, until you have four rows with four tiles in each row.
  • Third, stack a heavy book on top of each coaster once it is complete to ensure it dries flat. Allow the coasters to dry for one hour.
  • Fourth, use your X-ACTO knife to trim off any excess cork material from the coaster.
  • Fifth, take the tiles, polyurethane paint, and your newspaper or paper bag outside. (Make sure you’re away from any people, cars, and structures.) Place your tiles on the newspaper or paper bag and coat them with the paint. Allow the tiles to dry for 10 minutes, and then coat them again. (This seals the tiles from water damage and gives them a glossy look.)
  • Sixth, enjoy your brand-new coasters!

These Scrabble coasters will be a fun conversation piece in your apartment in Gainesville, Florida. If you are not yet a resident of our apartments at Bellamay Grand, contact us today or coast on in to our leasing office to take a tour.

“The scenery and space is amazing. The apartment leasing staff and maintenance staff are wonderful. I love that its a gated community and all though it's family and student oriented it's still extremely quiet.”

“We just moved in about a month ago. We had maintenance in so many times trying to get things set up for my disabled son - but they never complained. The grounds are beautiful. The people in the office are always polite and helpful. Very happy here.”
