Changing a Bike Tire in Your Gainesville Apartment

In addition to being an environmentally friendly way to get around town, biking is also a great exercise. However, if you use a bike regularly, flat tires are bound to become an issue from time to time. Changing a tire quickly and correctly will get you back on the road. To start, always be sure you have a spare tube that will fit your bike’s wheel, a set of tire tools, a portable air pump and any other tools you need to remove your wheel in a pack on your bike.

Then take the following steps:

  1. Remove your wheel from your bike and fully deflate the tube if it isn’t already.
  2. Place two tire tools a few inches apart under the wheel’s rim so the flat end hooks under the tire.
  3. Push both tire tools up simultaneously until the tire pops out of the rim.
  4. Hook one tire tool to the spokes, slide the other around the wheel underneath the tire to fully unseat it, and then remove both.
  5. Remove the old tube, and then feel around the tire to ensure nothing is still sticking through.
  6. Use the air pump to inflate the new tube to about a quarter of its capacity.
  7. Seat the tube inside the tire and wheel with the valve sticking through the hole provided.
  8. Hook the flat side of the tire tools to the wheel rim underneath the tire a few inches apart.
  9. Push down and run the tools around the wheel until the tire is fully seated.
  10. Inflate it to full pressure and reattach the wheel to the bike.

Now you’re ready to get back to riding whether for exercise or pleasure. Bellamay Grand is a bicycle-friendly Gainesville apartment community. For more information on our available units, contact us today.
