How to Make a Holiday Wreath for Your Apartment in Gainesville

For millennia, wreaths have been a symbol of victory for many ancient cultures. The modern tradition of hanging wreaths during the fall and winter holiday season represents the triumph over the hardships of the past year as people gather to celebrate. While it’s easy to go out and purchase a wreath, it can be much more enjoyable to make your own. All you’ll need are a few inexpensive supplies and some creativity.

You’ll want to gather the following items before you begin making your holiday wreath:

  • Floral wire ties – These can normally be found at a florist or arts and crafts shop.
  • Wire coat hangers – You should choose a kind that can easily be bent but will hold its shape.
  • A hot glue gun and glue – This can be useful for securing many decorations.
  • Garden sheers – Available at any garden center, these can be used to trim your wreath.
  • Foliage – Evergreen pine branches make the best wreath material as their leaves keep their color and many holiday tree lots will gladly give away, free of charge, branches they’ve trimmed. If they are available, juniper, rowan, and holly branches make excellent accents due to their evergreen leaves and colorful berries. Be sure to use thin, fresh branches that can bend easily without snapping.

Start making your wreath by working two of your wire coat hangers into a circle while leaving the hook in place and securing them together with the floral ties. Next, trim your pine into 5”-10” sections depending on the size of your wreath. Bend a branch along the circle, securing the top and bottom with floral ties. Continue securing branches around your wreath in this fashion while leaving enough overlap to hide your floral ties and the hangers. Next, use ties to secure holly, juniper or rowan accents to your wreath. Finally, add in any synthetic ribbon bows and other decorations you would like using the hot glue from the glue gun. Now your wreath is ready to be hung on the front door or in the entryway of your Bellamay Grand apartment in Gainesville, to welcome your visitors to celebrate the year’s triumphs and winter holidays with you.

“We just moved in about a month ago. We had maintenance in so many times trying to get things set up for my disabled son - but they never complained. The grounds are beautiful. The people in the office are always polite and helpful. Very happy here.”
