Making Ice Cream in Your Rental Apartment in Gainesville, Florida

If you’re looking to beat the heat, why not make up a delicious batch of ice cream? By making it yourself, you can come up with your perfect flavor combination and take pride in enjoying or sharing your own gourmet treat. All it takes is couple of hours, and a bit of hard work.

First, you’ll want to get the following supplies and ingredients gathered into your rental apartment in Gainesville, Florida so that you’re fully prepared:

  • A large freezer-safe baking dish or bowl
  • A sturdy spatula
  • A whisk
  • Sauce pan
  • Mixing bowl
  • ½ cup of heavy cream
  • 1 ½ cups of half-and-half
  • ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • ½  cup of sugar
  • 4 egg yolks
  • Pinch of salt

Now that you’re back in your kitchen, mix together your heavy cream and half-and-half over a medium heat until small bubbles and wisps of steam start to rise. Turn the heat down to low and whisk the remaining ingredients together in your mixing bowl. While still whisking the mixture in the bowl, ladle the cream mixture in a half-cup at a time – only adding the next one when everything is well blended. Once everything is mixed together, transfer it back to the sauce pan and heat on medium-low while stirring until the mixture thickens, but isn’t boiling. Once it thickens, pour it into your baking dish and allow it to reach room temperature. Afterwards, place it uncovered in the freezer for 45 minutes. Take the tray out and use a spatula to thoroughly break up the crystallizing chunks and smooth out the ice cream. Place back in the freezer and repeat the process every 30 minutes for the next 2 to 3 hours.  When you’re done, you’ll have a delicious, creamy vanilla ice cream ready to enjoy.

“The scenery and space is amazing. The apartment leasing staff and maintenance staff are wonderful. I love that its a gated community and all though it's family and student oriented it's still extremely quiet.”

“We just moved in about a month ago. We had maintenance in so many times trying to get things set up for my disabled son - but they never complained. The grounds are beautiful. The people in the office are always polite and helpful. Very happy here.”
