Creating a Wireless Network in Your Gainesville Apartment

Wireless connections are becoming an integral part of our daily lives. Now many mobile gadgets we love need to be able to connect to the Internet and each other to reach their full mobility potential. Correctly setting up a wireless network lets you enjoy all your wirelessly connected devices throughout your entire apartment.

First thing you’ll need to do to set up a wireless network is get some supplies for your Gainesville apartment if you don’t already have them:

  • Wireless router
    • Look at your devices beforehand to find the class, B, G or N, you’ll need
    • OR – buy one that can handle all of them.
  • A category 5/5e networking cable (not a patch cable)
  • A modem with Internet connection
  • Wire-ties

Find a place you can set the router and modem as close to the center of your apartment as possible so the signal can reach the entire floor plan. This location should also have easy access to the power, telephone, and cable lines these two devices will need. Also try to choose a place where any wires running to, from or between them won’t pose a tripping hazard. Follow the instructions that come with your wireless router to connect it with your modem, using wire-ties to keep wires out of the way and organized.

Once you have the system installed, connect a computer to the router with another cable and follow the router’s instructions to configure it. Be sure to rename your router and set up a password which protects your settings. You should also use a strong encryption on your router, such as WPA2, which will only allow people you want to access the Internet through it.

If you run across any trouble with setting up your wireless network, your Internet service provider (such as your cable company) can advise you.

“The scenery and space is amazing. The apartment leasing staff and maintenance staff are wonderful. I love that its a gated community and all though it's family and student oriented it's still extremely quiet.”
“This is a quiet gated community with nice apartments located in a great area.”
“We just moved in about a month ago. We had maintenance in so many times trying to get things set up for my disabled son - but they never complained. The grounds are beautiful. The people in the office are always polite and helpful. Very happy here.”
